Burnt Black

While the story kind of redeemed itself at the end, I wouldn't recommend Burnt Black. In fact, I'll never read another one of Kovacs' books.

This book spoke of political correctness twice as if it were a bad thing, and the treatment of women within the story was inappropriate. Characters with a certain body type were slurred, and there were numerous stereotypes used throughout the book. I didn't get the impression that this was just coming from the main character, I got the impression that it came from the author himself.

This story didn't need the head of Section 8 Housing to be black or all Hispanic characters to be illegal immigrants. It was unnecessary to have all of the check cashing business' customers to be Mexican, or the owner of the "zero-star motel" to be Indian.

It's rare for me to read a book that I really don't like at all, but I found this one to be of very little value.
