The Night Gardener

The Night Gardener tells the story of a pair of Irish orphans who seek employment at an English manor. Much like The Turning of the Screw or This House is Hunted, there is something unsettling about the family and the house itself.

This book is much like others I'm sure you've read, but the author makes no secret of the fact that Night Gardener was influenced by authors and stories that came before it.

I would recommend this book to those looking for a spooky bit of traditionally styled literature to share with a young audience this Halloween.
